Hey guys, it's Nick from F150LEDs.com. Today we're going to be showing you how to install our automatic LED engine bay lighting kit here on a 2018 Ford F-150 series truck. If you've ever worked out in the engine bay at night or in the evening, it can be hard to see what you're doing, but with our automatic LED lights here, you're going to be able to see whatever it is that you're working on. Plus, these lights are great for car shows or if you're just showing off your engine to some friends. They install in just a few minutes and we're going to show you how it's done right now.
We're going to be mounting our lights right here on this 2018. So use the included adhesion promotion wipes in your kit and make sure that you clean this area thoroughly. Get that surface grime and dirt off. Okay, looks pretty clean. Now what we're going to do is go ahead and mount our strips. Now the engine bay kit here consists of two LED strips so we're going to mount them just like so. They've got automotive grade 3M adhesive backing. So you can just peel this protective layer off the back of the strips and then we'll be able to mount them directly to the hood. When we're on our final step of this project, we're going to come back over it with some RTV silicone just to give it that extra strength and extra durability because we don't want anything even having a chance of falling off your hood into the engine bay obviously.
We've got our protective covers off our 3M adhesive, so let's go ahead and put our lights up. So just kind of give it some firm pressure throughout. You don't want any air pockets under these strips. Go ahead and add our second light here. All right, so we've got our lights mounted. Now we're going to take our 3M adhesive here and we're going to take... What you'll notice is there's a round tilt switch that's inside your harness wire here and what that's going to do is basically it's going to tell the kit whether your hood is open or closed. So when you open your hood, the lights are going to automatically activate. There's no on off switch. It's just hood up lights on, hood down, lights off. So you're just going to go ahead and mount the switch here like so and then what we're going to be doing is running our wire down underneath this heat shield on the bottom underneath your hood, and we're going to be running the wire down the side to our battery and making our positive and ground connections.
The last step is to simply strengthen our LED install here. So we're going to add one more 3M adhesive patch here on these wires just to prevent them from being a constant pull down on these lights like so. Then we're going to take our RTV silicone here and just run it along the sides of our lights all the way down. It's okay if it goes on them as well. You don't have to be clean or perfect with this. Same thing so you can tell. There we go and then you're just going to run that down into the sides of these lights and this is just going to further weatherproof, heat proof these strips here and give them some additional adhesive to the truck itself.
So that's all there is to installing the F150LEDs.com engine led bay kit here on a 2018 Ford F-150. But the install is going to be basically the same across all of our model year F-150s. For a quick test, you could close your hood, make sure the lights cut off. Lights off. Then you can open them and the lights automatically turn on. These are going to be great at night when you're working in your engine bay, or if you're at a car show or showing off your engine to a friend. We highly recommend them. You can check them out at F150LEDs.com. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you there. Thanks guys.
