Hey guys, it's Nick from F150LEDs.com. Today we're here with our 97 to 03 Ford F-150, and we'll be showing you how to upgrade the standard dim, dingy halogen headlights for our MKIII LED CREE XHP50 system. So this is going to make night driving much safer, much more enjoyable for you. The road is going to light up way better than with these standard halogens. Plus, it's going to look fantastic on the truck as well. And it's extremely easy to install, so we're going to show you how it's done right now.
First thing that we need to do is open our hood here. So, release the latch under your steering wheel, and then undo the safety latch here. Now releasing this headlight assembly from the truck is extremely easy. There's going to be two push in tabs here, basically L-shaped bracket, that you're going to be able to pull directly up on. And then that's going to release your headlight housing. You might have to wiggle this. There you go. So that releases our headlight housing. Be careful as you pull it from the truck. And then we can go ahead and disconnect our bulb and install the new one.
The first thing you want to do is remove the OEM halogen bulb. Now, we've already done that for times' sake in the video, but how you do that is just rotate this lock ring counterclockwise, and it'll slide off, and allow you to take that bulb directly out and disconnect it from the truck. Okay?
So let's go ahead and take our MKIII CREE XHP50 LED unit. Now, we've got this large compression ring built around the bulb base, which allows you to actually directly just plug in the bulb. And that compression fitting is going to keep it in place. But if you'd like to use this OEM lock ring as well, just pull the bulb back out, and you'll be able to, with a right hand turn, loosen this compression ring. And what we're going to do is we're going to line up the three tabs on this OEM unit with the compression ring unit to slide it right into place like so. And then we're going to put our compression ring back on the bulb, line it up with the silver lock ball there. Okay.
Now, we're going to install the bulb back on to the housing. And then just with a right hand turn, you'll be able to lock the bulb in place, and now it will definitely not be able to come out. Okay? So now we're ready to connect our ballast here to the headlight unit with our weatherproof seal. Make sure you lock it into place so that compression seal makes it completely waterproof. Now we're ready to reinstall the headlight housing and connect it to the truck's headlight harness.
So that's all there is to installing the MKIII CREE LED headlights system from F150LEDs.com. It's extremely quick, and makes a dramatic difference to your nighttime driving. It's going to make it a lot safer for you, a lot more enjoyable for you. Plus, the lights look fantastic on the truck.
